From Another Dimension

Mr. Tophat

Many years ago the Freaky people built an island where all freaky people were welcome. The island grew and grew and grew. The freaky people passed on their hopes, dreams and creative ideals with one wish. A wish that future generations would take the freaky torch and spread the freaky light. The wish started to turn into a reality. The island grew and so did the population. More Freaky people assembled and spread their ideals. One new member to the island said his name was jozif (all lower case,) this caught the attention of the island as “lower case” lettering was always a part of their manifesto. He was signed up and allowed to help spread the word. The results were both freaky and odd, and welcomed. The freaky people welcome jozif and his music. All hail jozif Track 1, Thrill Me has a beautifully home grown feel. The choice of percussion is this rec-ord’s defining feature. The beat is a perfect accompaniment to its huge electrovox hook and the fantastic lead line. A strange combination of sounds complements each other perfectly. Listening to this record puts you straight back in the early naughties, creating a Mr Oizo’esque party for your ears. The second track on this EP, All My Life, is a journey that boasts many faces and feelings. It’s a melting pot of emotion that has been delicately twisted into a beautifully progressive record. Haunting vocals and an eerie string section sit deep in the mix throughout, creating a men-acing vibe that demands your attention with a subtle sense of unease. In contrast to its dark underbelly, All My Life is underpinned by a deeply hypnotic melody, some fully engaging lead lines and just the right amount of jack making it a prefect late night track.
