Recloose

Recloose is the recording name of Matthew Chicoine, a Detroit-raised producer whose career began with eight years studying jazz saxophone before he shifted focus to mixing and cutting vinyl at college in Ann Arbor, Michigan. His break came via dance music folklore: in 1997 he slipped a demo tape into a sandwich order for techno pioneer Carl Craig, who signed him to his Planet E label almost immediately. His debut EP, So This Is The Dining Room (1998), and follow-up Spelunking EP (1999) built his reputation for eclectic, jazzy, soulful electronic music, and his acclaimed debut album Cardiology (2002, Planet E/!K7) featured Detroit-area collaborators including Dwele and Amp Fiddler. He relocated to New Zealand in 2001, where he built close creative relationships with local musicians, releasing his second album Hiatus on the Horizon (2005) and 2008's Perfect Timing, which won the Tui Award (New Zealand's music award) for Best Electronica/Dance Album. His confirmed connection to Music For Freaks comes via the 2006 release "Landed Remixes (Recloose And Freaks)." He later moved to Brooklyn and worked for Serato, continuing to release on labels including Aus Music.
