Doc Martin

Doc Martin came up through San Francisco's dance music scene in the mid-1980s, drawing on a musical family background - his mother sang backing vocals for Bay Area icons including Jefferson Starship. Immersed in the city's record store culture, he built an eclectic style spanning acid house to techno, playing epic sets - sometimes eight hours long - at clubs like Flammable Liquid and Sunday Love. He later relocated to Los Angeles, taking up a residency at the Metropolis and touring with Deee-Lite, before becoming the first West Coast DJ to hold residencies at storied New York clubs including the Roxy, Twilo, and the Tunnel. He also built a strong following in the UK, playing clubs like Cream and Back to Basics. For three decades he has run his own label, Sublevel, and remains a defining figure in West Coast house - often cited as helping bring house music to Los Angeles's underground scene.
